Outside of Saturday morning cartoons or rain we were always outside. My dad was always packing us up in the family station wagon and taking us down to the river. That was before things went really south between my mom and dad but I go down there now remembering all the things we use to do, unsupervised at that, they'd just fling open the car door and off we went, now a days would have people calling child protective service. My dad was pretty stern though when it came to area's of the river that'd take us right along with it, as long as we stayed within the boundaries of safe areas he was okay with whatever we were doing. There was parts of the river that was a sandbar almost completely across it, the only time of year we weren't allowed there was the spring when the water was high. We had plenty of other things to do though when the river was high into the park, as the water receded there was plenty of fish to spear left in those giant puddles in the grass.
