Most people I know who were on antidepressants and said they helped the majority of them found a new job, new relationship with someone or something else, like me once in a program for depression, I cured every young person in there within two weeks. We went there from nine to five everyday for a month, we sat in groups on certain days and had to tell our experiences of what we were depressed about. Every time I'd sit there balling my eyes out telling these stories of my life, one day one girl jumped out of her chair and declared she was cured. She said if she could go through all that I can survive what I just went through. I think she has postpartum depression mixed with the anxiety her boyfriend went to jail because he lost his job and he went to the store and stole diapers. Another girl had herpes and her whole family disowned her because they thought they'd get it, her mom sent her to live with relatives in another city and someone called and told them she had herpes so they threw her out. I always made it a point to sit next to her because we had to sign in everyday, so I'd be next in line to get the pen to show her I wasn't afraid of her. One day while sitting around during lunch I asked if I could braid her hair for her. Though I didn't really agree with her saying that she had become so angry with people and that she was in such emotional and physical pain from the outbreaks she'd take off her underwear and go deliberately sit on cool vinyl seats in air conditioned restaurants. I guess it was her way of trying to "cool" her emotions while soothing her pain but still...gross. By the time the class was done there was just me and this three hundred like pound guy left....there was no making him happy unless you let him have parts of your lunch you didn't want...lol. The counselor would say don't give him extra food because they were trying to teach him how to reduce his intake...but he wasn't happy about it and I am probably the reason he made it to the end of the month. lol.
