That's pretty funny. The neighbor who use to live behind me had a tree in the front of his house but it was on the other side of the sidewalk. There was a transformer there and every summer it never failed that a squirrel got in there and blew the transformer. If you didn't hear it frying you knew by the flickering lights you were about to find yourself without electricity for a bit. He would argue with electric company about it all the time, they'd tell him it was his tree and he'd tell them he wasn't responsible for trees on the other side of the sidewalk. (which the city considers we are). Anyway this went on for at least a good ten years, it got to the point the electric company had cut so many branches off the tree it started dying....finally they caved and cut the tree down. They can be hard heads sometimes, there was a huge tree that sat between the property lines in my backyard. (I really should write a story about this) It was dying but it was also up in the electric wires. Branches would fall off it now and then but always landed in one of the two neighbors yards behind me. One of the reasons one of them never liked me but she got along great with him though the branches falling her in yard was from the part of the tree that was on his side the property line. One time he got mad at me because a branch came down and knocked down one of his fence panels. I told him just because you put a fence in front of the tree does not automatically make your side the tree mine. I'd call the electric company and they'd come out and tell me it was my responsibility, though legally if you looked it up they were responsible for anything in the right of way, which is what that area is called. I just figured they couldn't figure out how they'd get equipment back there to get it down because my backyard is actually an old creek bed before they put in the expressway that took away the creek. I'd even say just send someone up there and have them drop it below the lines and I'll take care of the rest. But they would just argue with me, the last one who came out said "lady a hurricane couldn't take that tree down don't worry about it". That ended up being his famous last words. One day watching tv with my brother it started to sprinkle outside, like one of those little rushes of a rain cloud that ends a couple seconds later, then the lights flickered, then there was a swooshing sound that made the curtains blow inwards. (This story has an ironic twist) (lol). Anyway I said to my brother I think that tree came down..because like I said it was a spontaneous burst of a bit of rain and nothing else that would have caused the curtains to blow inwards. It sure did, it caught the lines near the break. It also pulled out all the neighbors electricity except mine. Not that that was funny for the majority of them but for the two behind me it was because they were out there laughing that the bulk of the tree came down in my yard after years of them having it fall in pieces in theirs. It took them two days of sending everybody but God back there trying to figure out how to get back there to take care of it. Finally they said they may have to leave some pretty heavy tracks in yard coming down that hill but they'd pay for any damage done to the lawn. I got paid three hundred bucks to take care of the rest of that tree which essentially I called their reimbursement to the lawn damage that I just used dirt to fill in the burrows. They cut the bigger parts up and placed them off to the side with a chain and my kids helped me cut up the rest. The tree fell on a Friday so they probably paid overtime to call in a crew. All those years of that tree falling apart into their yards they never got a dime for taking care of those branches and the utility company ending up taking care of what they should have taken care of during regular hours, I was the only one who came out on top of that deal, it wasn't just the money but the relief that thing wouldn't have came down on one of my grandkids....who, by the way, one of their big wheels was right under that tree, they liked riding them down that hill. I knew they felt bad about ignoring me after that, I went out there because they kept pointing at something, I wanted to see what it was, when I got out there I seen the big wheel under the tree. My grandkids did enjoy coming over that day and watching them get the tree down.
