I've tried potatoes twice in recent years, once in a container and another in grown without much success. If you've never done garlic before you are going to love it, the taste from dried fresh out of the ground is so much more pronounced. They also preserve well refrigerated for winter time use. I've grown onions from bulbs also, never really managed large to get them to grow large, more a medium size. This year I have some seeds I am going to have the grand kids plant. I had a lot of luck last year with hot peppers. I think I am going to increase the number this year and I canned last year for the first time in my life and they went over big time. I just haven't quite got the timing right on starting my own plants, well I actually only did it last year with the grand kids for them to have the experience of planting plants and watching them grow and produce. Maybe I started them a bit to early because they weren't getting enough sun from the windows some got sort of thin looking, carrying them in and out of the house so they could get outside sun exposure was sort of a drag also....that was a lot of trays to trot back and forth, lol. The tomato plants started out really well but were the ones that suffered the most from lack of sun. I admit I cheated a little bit because I didn't want the grand kids all disappointed over their joy of having seen their tomato plants doing so well just wither away into thin stalked top heavy floppy plants I went out and bought some starters and exchanged a few, lol, ssshhh, I won't tell if you won't. lol.
