Reminds me of several, well lots, of years ago when I ran across an old friend living in the back of this dumpy apartment. The landlord was a slum lord. I don't really know what took her to such a place from the time she use to be a happy go lucky person who had a baby who lived above me to such a condition that she lived in there. She never did drugs and rarely ever drank. She barely had any food, three more kids later living like that. The yard was full of debris and garbage. A friend and I took her out and he got her some groceries, then my kids and I took an old grill down to her house, it was rather large, and started burning all the stuff in the yard. It was all good until we got to what was a stack of pine attached to large metal wreath frames. Dried pine burns rather quickly and the flames shoot straight up into the air, so high it the flames were almost above the one story flat roof building that sat next door. We had the kids on look out in case the police came and sure as can be they did. They yelled to us the police were in the bank parking lot. The bank was on the other side of the flat roof building but the building lot was paved adjoined. We grabbed the buckets of water and started throwing it on the fire and the kids kept yelling that more cops were out there, it got to be so many I began not to believe them. I went over there and looked around the corner of the building and there were about half a dozen cops out there but they weren't coming for us evidently they were standing outside their squad cars with their legs and hands crossed. I guess they were sending the neighbors a message that it was about time someone cleaned that dump up and if burning it was the only way to go then burn it it will be.
