I think cyberdemon below hit the nail on the head. Talking about it during an election cycle is a death call. Why? Where can it go wrong? Obama Care. People aren't going to trust politicians again after that lost huge chunks of their tax returns paying penalties for not being able to afford the premiums. The health care for all call sounded great to many until they realized in the end a huge portion of those people would fall within a category of having to pay premiums they couldn't afford. It was free to the poor and obviously the rich can afford their own but those stuck in the middle like my son's girlfriend would have had to pay five hundred a month per child plus herself. It was actually cheaper to pay the two thousand five hundred dollar penalty a year. This is how people like her view it: there's still medical services provided at county health clinics, especially to children, most states have programs, one where she's enrolled now that she pays ten bucks a month to provide health care for her children. One of her kids was born with respiratory problems, he was in the hospital for three weeks, a couple more times after that for extended periods of a week or better....he was never denied services, just like she wouldn't be or my son. Health care is always available. What isn't is the money to pay high premiums every month. She can always pay whatever she can afford towards those thousands in medical bills, if she does they can't be turned over to collections. Yeah that may take years upon years but paying what you can afford versus paying for something you can't is two whole different things. The fact they were caught up in the promise and lie before gives them jiggers when it's brought up again. There's that old saying, if it sounds to good to be true it probably is.
Another thing about the medicare for all is just that. It's for all. Warren plan gets rid of all other types of insurance. Right now medicare among doctors is called a schedule filler. This is why you see so many new doctors take on medicare people as they have yet to get established with a clientele. As time progressives and they get clients with lucrative insurance benefits they drop more and more of their medicare clients...only using medicare clients to fill the gap(s) in between the scheduling of their more lucrative insurance clients. Which brings us to concern number two....those medicare clients, used only to fill gaps, find themselves waiting months for standard procedures like a colonoscopy. With the implementation of Obama care it has pushed the wait times out that far, people will have to schedule appointments a year or more in advance...which if it's standard four, five year procedure wouldn't be bad but what about those at any given time it's determined they are having colon problems or concerns?...how long will that wait be? I have a friend who just had a heart transplant a couple months back. She wasn't feeling well so they wanted to run some test on her. They told her it would be three weeks before they could get her in. She has medicare. She couldn't believe that someone who had just gone through a heart transplant could be told to wait three weeks when they weren't feeling good. She had to call her surgeons office to call them and enlighten them upon the urgency to get her seen in little over twenty four hours...what about people who don't have the fortitude to push?...will they sit and possibly die waiting? This is why people come to this country for medical treatment, the wait list in their own countries are months out.
You know in the reality of it all there once was a larger percentage of people insured in this country. A majority of employers used to cover medical and dental benefits. What happened? Job losses to foreign countries like China, India and many others. A percentage of the employers left here have gone to using temporary employment agencies to contain cost in order to compete with their off shore counter parts. Most temporary employment agency insurance plans are expensive and like traditional major insurers have gone to caring more about profit. That is why Obama care required that insurers meet a basic level of service...it doesn't mean it comes at a cheaper cost, it has actually risen the cost. Most of these types of plans offered would require a family of two working members, one who could make enough to cover daily expenses, the other to pay for insurance...that's how expensive it is for actual working Americans who get caught in between the poor and the rich.
You see this is how Americans few this stuff, you can call them a by gone era of boomers if you want but they know how the system worked before and it worked just fine for America. That's before the big sell out for corporate profits, political donations by means of slave labor in foreign countries and cheaper made products. Was it really cheaper though if it cut people's wages?..if people lost their jobs?..this is where they are at with this, they have determined it wasn't. You want to see a trickle down effect...job losses means less government, state and city revenue, people see their taxes rise to offset those losses after they done lost in the long run wage and benefit wise....still that isn't enough, like here they had to go to the voters and ask them for tax increase to maintain roads and the parks in our city because there just isn't the revenue there anymore from anyone coming in not just from lack of jobs but revenue sharing also. When people see them saying we want to cover everyone medically through medicare...that's just not something they trust as they were suppose to be taking care of the roads, parks, law enforcement, etc., on the taxes already paid...but it's never enough anymore. The citizens of my state just had a gas tax hike of thirty eight cents implemented over a three year period to pay for state roads...the whole thirty eight implementation went in either last January or the prior January...so people were having a hard time with the new governor coming in and wanting to jump the gas price up another forty five cents to pay for the roads. See?...it's never enough. She didn't get it as people were as angry as hornets. It's never, ever enough in the long run, people have come to learn this, it sounds good now but in the end it's never enough.
How they view this new movement is like it's time to stop the government from making our decisions and demanding they set things right. Like unequal trade. Like telling other countries to pay for their own climate regulations. We keep paying out more and more from this country while other countries keep demanding more from us...we're seen as the largest industrial base but we are not the largest polluters and that's because we've implemented regulations and kept to them to reduced emissions...all the while these other countries keep increasing emissions. We can't be the savior to the world. It's time to start holding countries responsible instead of just Americans who do so at a disadvantage to themselves. The answer is to level the playing field not keep going until you've burnt America to ground...we really aren't the problem here.
