Thanks @shasta, it is an amazing place. It is a basalt volcanic plug over 800 feet high. There are 51 switchbacks on the trail but it is not as difficult as it sounds. It was raining (usually is there as it is located directly in the Cascade Mountain range. Here is the Wikipedia page about the rock which has some very interesting history.
