I can't speak to offshore but I do live in an area with lots of wind farms and I really don't have a problem with them here.

The gray line through the middle is the Columbia River, with Washington above and Oregon below. I live just off the map on the left. There is an interstate highway along the river on the Oregon side that I drive regularly and there are wind farms right up to the road in some parts and off in the distance in other parts. I also hike a popular trail in the area and walk right past some of these things!

I avoid all political talk about these farms and I also don't really know too much about there efficacy in relation to other power sources around here (unfortunately there are many many dams stopping up the mighty Columbia, but that's a talk for another day) but I can give you my observations, since you asked :)

• Eyesore
  Meh, they don't bother me when I'm driving, in fact the engineering is cool and the scale is huge. They look small (perspective) in the distance but shit, come up on one and they are huge.
  
  Here's the thing with the eyesore argument, to me it's just a classic NIMBY (not in my backyard) situation. Do you want clean(er), sustainable energy? Then you have to look at it, and honestly be happy to see them and glad you are in an area that uses this renewable resource. I know it is not "natural" and it might spoil a view but get over it ffs, there are so many worse places you could be driving through right now, like Portland!!

• They kill all the birds!
  Oh yeah? So does your cat, KAREN! Oh, and you may want to move out of that house with windows because I guarantee that shitbox has killed some birds too.
  I've actually looked into this because I've heard many people talking about the great numbers of birds these things kill, I even had someone tell me that each windmill kills hundreds of birds a year! If this was true then I would have undoubtedly seen evidence of this on my hikes or seen photos in the local news. When I asked her where all those birds are (the dead ones) she said someone drives around and cleans them up xD fucking loon.
  Do they kill birds? Yes. Do they kill a disproportionate amount of birds? No.

As for offshore wind farms, Id say that sounds like bullshit. First the amount of windmills to make substantial power must be a lot, I mean we have hundreds and I still see the blades driving down the highway (the trucks are crazy to see too!), so I can't imagine they could put enough. Then the cost of maintenance must be astronomical when you add the fucking ocean to the equation.
