I decided to pop into my bank today while I was downtown and order up 50 rolls of half dollar coins to do some roll hunting.
Wikipedia says:

Coin roll hunting is the hobby of searching and sorting coinage pulled from circulation for collectible coins. This is achieved through obtaining rolled coin, boxed coin, or bagged coin from banks and credit unions.

What was I searching for? Kennedy half dollars minted in 1964. 1964 was the last year these coins were 90% silver. With the actual silver weight at 0.36169oz the value of the silver (melt value) in these coins is currently $6.11

Anyhow, the bank did not have many rolls on hand so I asked if they could get me 50 rolls and they said yes, next Wednesday. Cool. Then the teller said she had three rolls I could take today and I said, great!

Well, it turned out to be a bust before I even got to look at the coins...

I have never seen these but I knew I had been had by the US mint once I saw the 2007 on that roll.

I opened that 2009 roll just to be sure. Yep, all 2009, so I used them to pay for my burrito and the guy in the truck was tickled pink that I payed with brand new half dollars, so that's a win. Gotta keep you local food truck artist happy.

I really REALLY hope those rolls that come in next week aren't direct from the mint. We shall see...
