Today let's check out a copper bar. Featured on this bar is the American bison.
In American English, both buffalo and bison are considered correct terms for the American bison. But, in British English, the word buffalo is only used for the African buffalo and water buffalo and not the bison.
The American bison was first used on US coinage in 1913. Designed by sculptor James Earle Fraser, the buffalo nickel featured the bison on the reverse.
The reverse of this copper bar has quite a bit going on. In the circle it looks like the background is a flower with an American flag above and a shield with wings in the middle 🤷♂
