As a silver stacker, I enjoy getting a new bar or round with some cool design on it but for me, these are investments that I plan on selling or trading someday so I am not really that attached to them as * collectibles*. I am, however, a collector of things and this is what led me to my interest in US coins.
This is a 1943-D Mercury dime
When I started with coins I really didn't know anything as far as value or even where to look to learn about them. The #steemsilvergold community was a big help but I have to say @silverd510 has extensive knowledge of US coins, both their condition and value, and he turned me on to a website I use often. https://www.usacoinbook.com/
On the left side of the page, you can see the "coin menu".
This is where you can look up ANY US coin. Let's look up this 1943-D Mercury dime...
At the top of the page are all the "stats" of the coin you are looking at.
Below that are all the years that particular coin was minted as well as an estimated value of each coin depending n the condition.
This particular coin I have is graded by one of the top grading services PCGS (Professional Coin Grading Service) as an MS65FB
The MS stands for Mint State the 65 is the grade out of 70 and in this dime there is an FB designation that stands for "Full Bands".
As you can see above the horizontal and diagonal bands in the middle of this coin are what is meant by full bands. They are the highest part of the coin and as such, they tend to wear out first like in this example.
Thanks for stopping by, have a GREAT weekend.
