Yet, Puri did not give up. He began is career as a voice artist in Bengali movies and did small jobs in theatres. Little by little, he started performing in movies. After 10 years, he won an Oscar for the role of Khan in the movie Gandhi.

For most of his movies, he had to shave his head to complete the villain look and give the impression of being evil. Puri won three Filmfare Awards for best supporting actor. That’s a massive achievement for someone who came to Mumbai with less than a hundred rupees. The villainous actor even got praises from Steven Spielberg. Puri acted in one of his blockbuster movies as Mola Ram in ‘’Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom’’. For those who do not know! He wore animal horns, a black and red robe plus human heart and bone necklace as accessories. The director said: “Amrish is my favourite villain. The best the world has ever produced and ever will”. This shows the impact he has made with his movies.
