The problem in the sink turned out to be the caused by the pressure switch on the well not engaging when the pressure dropped below 40psi and those old galvanized water tanks rust on the inside so it was water from the very bottom of the tank.
I went out and got the switch working and every thing seems to be okay for now. I do have a pressure switch on my list for my next trip to the hardware though. Those aren't hard to change but I also know they wear out so if it happens again I'll change it.
