This hike has been on my hit list for well over a year. The Trifit Bridge is located in the Berneroberland region in Switzerland. We had planned to do this as a day hike, but after sleeping in, this seemingly wise decision had now backfired. It was now around 11am. To reach the start of the hike, there is a gondola that takes you there. However, the last gondola ride down is at 4/5pm and the drive to get there is approximately 2 hours from Zurich, plus you have the hiking time to get up to the bridge and back down. So in reality, this day hike made no sense to us and I was a bit let down. We racked our brains together and my wife noticed that there are two cabins available that provide room and board. A quick phone call was made and voila, two sleeping spots were arranged, so we quickly packed our gear and headed out.

From the top of the Triftbahn station, the hike isn't all that long. It is around 1.5 hours and the terrain is diverse and very scenic. For the rest of this story, I will let the photos do the talking.

The Windegghütte cabin is around a half hours hike from the bridge and the view from the cabin pours out into the valley. Up to 40 people can sleep in this cabin and dinner and breakfast is included for a very reasonable price. That said, the sleeping quarters are shared and if the cabin is full, there isn't much room to spare, but it is totally worth the experience. There are multiple hiking trails in the area, all ranging in difficulty and length. There is so much to explore in this part of Switzerland and I am sure we will be back.
