Dunkirk, as soon as it is released, I watched it today.
Christopher Nolan's work was a film worth watching just enough to be a director for it.
I think it is a completely different war movie than before, in fact. Shooting bombs, rescuing the bosses, feeling the thrill of emotions ... Before seeing it, I thought I'd have to get a private Ryan or a little Sinpa like a war movie in my country ... but nothing like that.
How did Christopher Nolan recreate a film based on a true story, and then re-created a war movie again? I was curious about the process and the ending before I started.
In fact, I did not even see the trailer properly. The combination of Christopher Nolan and Tom Hardy was enough.
But once you see the trailer for you...
Spoiler from here
Actually ... What a spore in the war movie? but it's much more fun if you do not know how to structure it even if you already know the true stroy.
It seems to be a feature of work of director Christopher Nolan, but the crossing of time in incestion movies was very impact. When the crossing of time / space takes place when the action in reality reaches to Dream 1, Dream 2, Dream 3 ... and gradually spread to Dream 1 -> Dream 2 -> Dream 3, Hans Zimmer's magnificent music maximizes the effect. This configuration was also used in Dunkirk.
For the very first time ... He described the war in three areas. 1) The coast. 2) Zone 3) Airspace. Especially at the beginning of the movie, these subtitles appear - "an hour in the sky, a day in the sea, a week in the land" ... and you expect these three things are described in order? it iis not. Crossing a little bit ...
After all, the protagonists in all three areas meet at the ending.
It is a form to be encountered as the story of going to the horizon comes closer and closer like an ant of the Bernard Berber novel.
Hans Zimmer's music seems to be using magnificence and something that is different from ... touching ... tremendous music. I think it is so effective when he give tension to war movies.
The main characters in the land / in the sea / in the sky have few words. Especially, even the main character on that poster does not say much ...
My favorite actor, Tom Hardy ... is not much talk in the sky. If you have "attack!"... There is not much dialogue, but rather focus on the scenes. Especially, there are many amazing surprise scenes, and I was really surprised to hear the gunshots at unexpected moments.
A British soldier escaped from Dunkirk ... worried about the way back home. He thought it was not a victory. So when he arrived in my hometown, he could not even carry his face on the train. Soon the citizens told him that they gave the soldiers beer and welcomed.
Churchill also said survival was a real victory in this situation ... It sounds really fresh at the end of the majestic music and the way it is composed.
Like a war movie ... Although a movie has been created with such material, like World War II, I do not think there was such a war movie. Even the hero who sought someone was not a tear-jerk movie, but ... I think the war was also a story of ordinary humans and emotions in the war, and that they brought their story with truth.
And after watching the movie, I saw the some criticism.
Watch Lee Dongjin's Live Talks (who are very popular in movie criticism area): This movie is a war movie featuring the aesthetics of Christopher Nolan's subtraction without heroes, no emotional arms, no large-scale battle scene, and no sense of character.
