The first few weeks of game release for Golem Overlord had been pretty exciting. Its sole developer, Yixn, relentlessly made significant changes and balance fixes in a fast-paced manner that I've never seen before in any other Hive NFT project. But then things started to slow down as Yixn then announced that he had a medical issue that needed to be addressed. And since then, the continuous cycle of in-game events and development seemed to become slower.
Yixn has recovered a bit but apparently, the reason now for the seemingly slower development is that he is preparing for the introduction of NFTs to the game. As mentioned in Discord, the initial plan is to have golem NFTs that can be summoned using the Shard tokens. This will be a dynamic process where increased number of Shard tokens burned provides a greater chance of getting higher rarity golems. He also said that the barrier of entry would be low in order to accommodate new players who would also want to try it out.
Opportunity in Shard Tokens?
During the initial game release, the drop rate for shards were a lot higher. This was nerfed a couple of times which made it harder to obtain shards through scavenging in the game. From my personal experience, out of a total 100 Part tokens that I claim every eight hours across eight accounts, I only get one to three Shards. That puts me at around a ratio of 100 Parts to 3 Shards. But currently, the open market values Shards almost the same as Part tokens. This is in part due to the previous oversupply and the fact that Shards have no use case at the moment.
But once NFT summoning is introduced into the game and the hunt for the ultra rare golems start, we might see a sudden spike in the demand for Shards. And when the market's surplus starts to decline, we might see a significantly higher Shard value than what it is currently being traded at. But then again, this is just my personal opinion and players should do their own due diligence regarding this matter.
