The Beginners Guide To Technical Analysis – How It All Started. [Part #8]
So, back to the story!
During the whole British Gas share allocation and the sale of my shares, it showed me that the stock price had little to do with the actual company creating more Gas or widgets, but in fact had everything to do with demand being greater than supply. Simple really, but who would have thought it would have played and does play such an enormous role in trading. What is more, that none of this was more than people being greedy and wanting more, and those selling out of fear for thinking it had topped out. There lay the basics of market psychology and the tools, techniques and methods you are going to learn are how we measure psychology, the act of fear and greed in price movement.
Having learned that, it was sometime later that I got involved in it once again. The late 90’s, not long after I had worked for Apple Inc, way before it was the huge behemoth it is now and certainly way before they were cool. The ‘Dot Com’ bubble was forming nicely. What alerted me to this, was the odd fact – price was climbing yet these new IPO companies hadn’t even made a penny, but were raising millions and millions based on nothing. Many hadn’t really anything fiscally to report prior to their IPO. Thankfully things have become a lot more regulated on that front, but it was alarming. ‘Dot Com’ companies were springing up everywhere, and their valuations sky rocketing, simply because they had something to do with the new buzz word “The Internet” or “eCommerce”.
This is where you need to learn about “Technical Traders” and “Fundamental Traders”. Those that are technical, rely on patterns, movement, market psychology, supports and resistances. They look at where the price was and where it is now, and where the next level of resistance is. This is what you will learn and is what the majority of traders are. Why? Simply because most traders are traders and not investors. A trader is someone that looks to trade to profit and get out. An investor is some one that will look longer term and perhaps ignore the technical of the trade, aside from getting the best price, but more look at how the sector is growing that the company is in, the last few profit reports, the outlook for similar companies and it’s share dividend. Looking at a company’s financials in terms of accounts, profits and more, is looking at the fundamentals. This is a long term view, a bricks and mortar view. The bottom line.
Going back to the late 90’s, fundamentals were ignored completely and people were investing using technical feedback – looking at the hype of a company and the chart data, but not looking at what every investor should look at and that’s the fundamentals. Those that made their money were the technical traders who knew when to get out, those that didn’t were the investors who got hooked by the technical of the chart, believing that the long term gain expected from any investment would hold true because of what they saw in a charge.
Do you see the lesson here? We ARE NOT investors! Sure if you want to buy and hold, look strongly at the market sector, the company reports and accounts, it’s bottom line. We don’t do that, we don’t have time for that. We ARE TRADERS who look to get in and out within a much shorter time frame. Plus we do not care what we trade, it is wherever the price is moving in a way we want and can trade. What is also good, is it allows you to get the most from a position you already have.
Looking at Crypto currencies for a minute. The new kid on the block STEEM, you can look as to when to sell your STEEM, when the top of the market is likely to be, sell your STEEM and then wait for the reversal, and buy more STEEM at the bottom with the profit you made from the sale. With some cryptocurrencies and the way they fluctuate, that movement can be quite quick and dramatic. Knowing when that is likely to happen, can and will make you a lot of your crypto currency of choice and what you will learn within this course.
During the 90’s then I saw all this happen again, the stock price not relating in any way to the actual value and profit created by the company. It was at this point I started to become involved in analysis and realise that there were techniques and methods that you can apply to measure these – Technical Analysis. From there, I started dabbling into Financial Spread Betting, which is betting (trading in a way) on the price movement on well known stocks. My experience and knowledge of Technical Analysis lead me to write it all down in the form of a small guide. Friends and few others wanted to know how I could read charts to gauge entry and exit. This lead me to producing a PDF to give to friends, who would then post it elsewhere. Eventually I realised that more and more people were emailing me seeking advice. From that point I hunkered down and started writing the original “The Guide To Financial Spread Betting” which was a free course, inferior to this of course, and then lead to the full paid course, leading to support. Back then I only gave a few modules away, but here, today, I am giving away the entire beginners course for free, but if you want support and to know more and move forward, you can take the bigger advanced course with me. www.learnhowtotrade.uk
So that is how it all began. Humble start that lead to becoming one of Europe’s leading online trader training companies, within a few short years. Today, I aim to make this huge once again. I want to empower you with the knowledge that you can become something greater than you had ever believed and that learning analysis and believing in yourself as a trader is the step to bigger, brighter and some incredible things.
