With 16 Hours Left In The Jam, I Think I'm Ready To Stop My Game

Yup, I didn't make it. Due to a number of reasons, I wasn't able to finish my game for Ludum Dare 44.
Fret not! I still had fun :^)

What Went Right? 👍

  • 😊 solid idea for game, one that I'm excited to pursue in the future
  • 🎨 tried out a new graphics style, I think it turned out fresh & interesting
  • ⌨ had fun shedding some of my game-dev rust, excited to get back into games soon!

What Went Wrong? 👎

  • 🤷‍♂️ too big of a scope for such a short time frame, what a classic game jam issue
  • 🕹 took too long to find core gameplay mechanic, I still don't even know what the "fun" aspect of the game would be
  • 🐛 a bug with the game engine I use, I need to learn more TypeScript so I can fix it on my own

What's Next? 🤔

As mentioned, I actually really like the idea I came up with and I for sure want to develop it further. Ditching myself of the theme constraints, I think I'll be able to come up with a better game-flow and more fun mechanics.
I think sticking to the theme of "Your Life Is Currency" is what bogged me down so much. Giving myself more development-freedom will help me create a better realized product.

Other than that, I had a ton of fun. I've actually participated in every Ludum Dare for the past 2 years or so, but I rarely release the games I make during them. I either don't complete them, aren't happy with them, or just don't think their ready.
But that's ok! I still have lots of fun simply spending a few days just making something random. And, I tend to gather lots of ideas for future projects [ which is a nice bonus ;^) ].
