Some people hate doing business because they may be comfortable with their daily jobs. They may have many other stresses in their life that even the thought of starting something new makes them nauseous. Doing business requires doing a lot of research into current markets and knowing some basic terms from marketing, finance, etc... Some of these things may be very intimidating when people first hear them.

Business also involves risk. People who are mainly risk averse would rather work the 9-5 and save up slowly while supporting themselves and their dependants. Taking large risks may not be the best idea when you have a family or not enough money to throw around.

My parents are on opposite ends of the spectrum on this topic. On one side, my dad who studied and got his PHD in Chemistry always encourages the classic work hard, and up the ladder. Save money and be responsible. My mom, who only completed High School thinks that working for someone cannot keep you sustained or happy in the long run and that people must create something for themselves to really be successful. I would say both are right depending on how you feel about it.

I think overall, the risk, research and ambiguity that comes with starting and doing business may be too overwhelming to some, or that they may not find themselves are business people.
