You are right, I have had the same attitude about the Republicans: all these amazing ideas, but they never could implement any of them, they cried, because of the Democrats. Okay then, this time they have it all: the executive branch, both houses in Congress, plus a judiciary leaning in their favor. So what about all those great plans? Never mind, instead they are running the country off a cliff. Sure, it will most likely finish them off, but at what cost?

The other thing I have been in favor of, as a general idea, is to give each way of thinking its own space, provided people are in favor of it. You want Sharia law? Sure, you can organize yourself and implement it in your town for yourself and your supporters. Those who agree with you will follow. Those who don't like it will leave. You want communal ownership? Go right ahead, and practice it with your fellow communists. As long as free movement is guaranteed, and no one tries to impose their ideas on others, this should work... in theory. But again, in practice it may not be this simple.
