It was a rainy day over here, and since then, I have been thinking one question: why is the world afraid of rain?
I mean common guys, it is just water falling from the sky. And that too in the summer season. There is nothing dangerous in it. Nothing new. Yet the moment clouds become slightly emotional, everybody starts making emergency plans.
"Looks like rain."
Isn't it a bit unwelcoming sentence? And it is enough to change human behavior. Rather than welcoming it, folks will start to run towards their cars. Shopkeepers pull down shutters. Mothers call their children to come back inside. Motorcyclists! Okay you guys are allowed to be emotionless. And if you are from developing country, say 'GOODBYE' to the electricity.
How can I forget the poor umbrella, like it has to spend most of the year fogotten in some dark corner, and suddenly, it is promoted to a positional of national importance.
We love sunshine.
Yes, I am saying this. To my close one this may sound surprising. Like I am a rain lover, but I cannot deny the fact that sunshine is beautiful as well. Only if this mighty SUN knows it place.
Listen to me, sunshine is polite. It arrives in the morning, and if you are good with photography, you can turn that into a masterpiece. Moreover, it usually follows the same script; we humans have named it "Sunshine and Sunset."
Rain has no such manners.
Rain arrives whenever it wants. It can ruin freshly washed clothes, because today it did for me. It can turn clean things into something archaeological discoveries. It can also interrupt you special days.
So some people do have the right to hate it.
But have you guys ever tried welcoming it?
Of course, not by standing in the middle of the road and becoming a free advertisement. I mean, actually welcoming it.
Do this: sit near a window; make yourself a cup of tea; watch some stray animals; and most importantly, listen to those tiny drops hitting the roof like someone is trying to have a conversation with you.
And believe me, birds just follow this routine. They usually have dates on such days. Yes, I made this up.
But remember rain has a habit of creating silence.
And silence is sometimes dangerous. It brings back old roads, old conversations, old faces. Especially those things we think we have left long ago. Suddenly, a rainy afternoon can make a person remember something from ten years ago with the accuracy of recorded vedio.
The human mind is an impressive machine.
You are perfectly fine at 1:00 PM, watching the world with silence, and by 1:15 PM you are mentally done for.
Funny how I started with in favor of rain, and now, I am talking about how a little rain can do such things. It does not even touch us. Sometimes, all it needs to do is to slow down the world, and suddenly all those "escaped" pages repen.
And this is where, we are afraid of rain.
Actually, we are not afraid of rain because it hurts us, but because it gives us time to feel what we have been avoiding. We are good with spending so much time pretending - to be all okay. And with that even the real danger starts to sound like a normal thing. We keep the clouds hanging above us, saying I am in good control. And soon, this will vanish on their own. We keep on smiling, changing the topicss, cracking jokes and move on.
We all came crying to the world.
But just like filled clouds, our clouds of "TEARS" has to pour down as well.
I know the world has made it hard for all of us. I and you, we both are made this way. We alll consider crying as an act of embarrasment; we call it a sign of weakness. But is there anything to be embarrased off? Like when I came crying, everyone else was happy. Okay, I am not saying to start laughing, if someone is crying. That is mean thing to do!
So, remember, you are allowed to cry. Rather than keeping the rain inside, sometimes it is better to let it fall, because even clouds need to get lighter.
It reminds me of beautiful line from a Ghazal: "Tum itna jo muskra raha ho, kia ghum h jo chupa raha ho." (Translation, though it kills the fun: "Why do you smile so much? What sorrow are you hiding behind that smile?"
