Before starting anything, there is a term: "Desi." Now what does it mean?
“Desi” is a term used for people, culture, food, traditions, or things associated with South Asia. It comes from the Sanskrit word desa, meaning “country” or “land.”
The people of my region has shared history for centuries, so we might be independent nations now. Still, we all share lots and lots of things. In this aspect, we are still in the middle stage for accepting a "pet."
A bit of preview
A year back, out of nowhere, a female cat came to my aunt's house. Pretty normal thing to happen. Of course, they are living creature, right? Now, from social media, I have learnt that people in the West really do have way with pets. Like they consider it as a must part of their family. However, in Desi families, the rules are bit different. Since childhood, I have always wanted to have a dog as pet. But what do you think my family used to say about it?
"Is ghar m aik hi kuta reh sakta h." ("Only one dog can live in this house.”)
No need to take it serious. It was just a reminder that we are not ready to care for another being. And those aware of Desi families will easily get this point.
Years passed, just like everyone else, I became an adult with the same wish. But, when I went for the university, I really had gone for the dream. However, right after two-days I gave up on it. It was impossible to manage a pet dog and myself. So yeah, I really understood what they used to say at that time.
Skipping Forward to Present.
As said earlier, a poetess i.e. a female cat came. First reaction at that time was: locking all the doors of the inner house. We followed the orders, and the doors to the castle were shutted down. As for my aunt, the enemy had entered the premises of the royal land.
Next thing I did was to feed her.
My love for the pet is primarily because of the cartoons and movies. We, the people of this region, really treat animals with utter respect, as it is also an obligation for our religions. But, considering them as a family member, this thing really takes time.
That one feeding was enough for her to rule over our hearts. Since then, she has been living with us. The outside world is ruled by her; the inner world is ruled by my aunt.
But here is the twist.
As of now, both ladies of the house has formed an alliance. My cousin sent me a picture (as I am out of city) of she sitting on a sofa - a sacred place. Like my aunt will not even allow me to lie down on it.
So it almost took a year, for two enemies to come in peace.
Now, the poetess is officially part of the family.
And of course, she also has a offspring. Ready to take the stage for the next generation. I call him "the prince." On daily basis, she is being served meal - only meat - three times a day. The prince has its own ways of eating. He does like to eat meat, but he mostly prefers milk.
Prince on the praying mat. Well, time has indeed a way of changing things.
And believe me, this is the most "Desiest" experience one can have. There is no grand announcement for such peace proposals. It all happens queitly. The same family that only allowed one "kuta/dog" now has a poetess, a prince, and apparently, me :)

Pictures were shared to me by my cousin via Whatsapp, as I am out of city right now. Wish I were there to enjoy such a moment.
