These are my two little ones. It took my spouse and I almost two years to decide to get them. We lost our two cats in a fire in 2011, on our way home from work . It was devastating to come home to find our home totally destroyed. The first thing we did was rush to see if our babies were alive. We found Starlett’s body, but never found our Lalo, who was the boy. Yes, I know they were animals, but I also know that they loved us and were dependent on us. We gave them the best life we could. I can at least say they were loved and happy.
It wasn’t until 2013, after we decided that New York wasn’t for us any longer that we moved to Austin, Texas. It was very rough going at first. We had to live with a so called “friend” who left us in the street after a month. We were waiting for our monies to come through. It did, after about three more weeks. We immediately spoke to a realtor and got our new place (home to this very day). After moving in, we settled on continuing to look for jobs. Meanwhile, we volunteered at the Animal Shelter. We did what we could to help train and care for the dogs, the big ones that were hard to walk. One day we were helping, and low and behold saw three tiny little fur balls outside with the big dogs. Their names were: Lucy, Ricky and Daisy. We asked why they were outside in the pens. The answer: they had heartworm. We walked all three, but Daisy was a little aloof, so we took them back to their pen. We immediately started to think about adoption. Unfortunately we could only adopt two. As it turned out, Lucy and Ricky (yeah ridiculous names) were from the same home. Brother and sister. We went home, and the next day adopted them. We changed their names to Lara and Longhorn, and have loved them ever since!
