BLUF: Price gouging encourages consumers to buy less and sellers to get more supplies to maximize profits, thereby allowing more people to buy goods and more goods to be available.
Lots of talk on the news and online about price gouging before and after disasters. Off the cuff of course price gouging sounds wrong and disgusting. Upon further thought an inspection though, price gouging actually ends up benefitting everyone in an effected area.
