Smederevo Fortress is one of the largest fortresses in Europe. The fort is full of history so it has a check and today, 2012 archaeologists have found the tomb of a noble woman full of jewelry. Because of this and because the works on the walls are still ongoing, all lovers of history and architecture must visit this place. And while in the fort you might find the lost treasure of the damn Jerina who knows !? The fortress of Smederevo is a large and small town. In the small town are the remains of the once great court of the despot and his family. The big city was built a little later and was inhabited by the population during the Turkish attacks.
The Smederevo fortress during the despot of Djurdj Brankovic was the center of an entire country. And so it had to be on a large surface. As a large building at that time, masonry lasted from 1428-1439.Its location at the mouth of the River Jezava on the Danube covers an area of approximately 11 hectares.
You have to experience this live. From the Smederevo fortress you can see the perfect view of the whole town of Smederevo and the beautiful Danube river for several kilometers. In the fort itself you can see beautiful buildings. And when you finish sightseeing the fortress you can go to the Smederevo Museum and see what was found in the fortress itself. The museum is located only 200m away from the fortress.I recommend you to visit this place as it is very beautiful. You can also find many birds.Well you can make beautiful photos too.
This fort is full of legends, one of the most famous is that the despot Đurad Branković dreamed that he should erect a fort (city) at the mouth of the rivers and therefore ordered the construction of a city at the mouth of the river Jezava into the Danube. During masonry, the stones were taken from Kosmaj (60km from Smederevo), from Viminacium (40km from Smederevo) and from the fort in Ram (70km from Smederevo).
The fortress is in the form of an irregular triangle and is divided into two parts.A smaller part was used as a court despot while a larger part was used for the people and the lords. The construction of the Small Town took only two years, which is very small for such work.
The people therefore found the culprit in the despot's wife in Jerin, and that's why they called her "damn Jerin." There is a legend which says that Jerina buried her great treasure in the fortress to hide from the occupiers and that to date no one has found that treasure.
But the workers who built the fort were literally dying of fatigue. When they built the small town where the despots were staying with family, the second major part of the fort began to burn. Most of it was built around 1439.Then 19 towers and a canal were added to merge the two rivers of the Danube and the Dam.So the fort was surrounded by water and it was not easy to conquer. The town of Smederevo fell into Turkish hands permanently in 1459, and thus the Serbian medieval state.Subsequently, the fort was used by various armies and even Hitler's army during the Second World War when the stronghold exploded.he fort itself suffered minor damage while the rest of the Smederevo within a few kilometers of the fort was flattened.Today, the walls are being rebuilt and the fort is open to all visitors.
If you visit this place you get the impression that you are a part of history because there is still excavation in the fort and something new is always being excavated. The excavation of the foundations of a still very mysterious church inside a fort which is not known for sure when first erected has found the tomb of several nobles with a slight unprecedented value! you can see all this in the Smederevo Museum, located just 200m from the fort.
The fortress of Smederevo has an irregular triangular shape with 25 high towers and is recognizable by that. The city fell completely into the hands of the Turks in 1459, and was also the end of the entire Serbian medieval state.
The fortress after all the wars was in perfect condition until the mid-20th century, during the Second World War when there was a huge explosion in it from German ammunition depots, then the fortress suffered its greatest damage but was not shamed with the earth in relation to the city in its vicinity of several kilometers which was completely demolished.
