Tim Ferriss says it, Helen Keller, T.S Eliot, Mark Twain, the list goes on. Basically, anyone who has ever done anything great, when asked about how they have done it, replies with something along the lines of, "I had to take a risk". Nothing truly great ever really happens to anyone who sits in the confines of their comfort zone. This advice is summed up so well in a song I recently heard on the radio by an Australian artist, Seth Sentry.
This is a very poignant piece of information for me right now as I am at a kind of crossroads currently. I have been a huge believer in the possibility of becoming a digital nomad for a while now. Though the thought terrifies me, quitting your job in hope of making a living from less conventional means.
Here's where I stand in my life at the moment
To sum it up, things are pretty bloody swell for us.
I don't like capitalism, I don't like the idea of selling my life for a pre-determined dollar amount every week. 40 hours a week is like 80% of your waking life. It just doesn't seem right! I want to live a life where I work on my on terms, I decide what my time is worth, and I can give my value to whoever I decide at the time. Right now, I give my value (if any) to you!
So, now we are deciding. We are halfway through a two week holiday and all of these ideas are enjoying the opportunity to gallavant around our heads. It is both exciting and terrifying at the same time! But based on what Seth Sentry has told us, as well as Tim Ferriss and all the other epic people in history, we have to take that risk!
