Introduction
It is nice to reflect and share lyrics, it makes us consider what we were actually writing about. This one is an autobiographical song and tells a story of when we were gigging a lot in London!
The Song
This was a song we did a while ago and was released by Quark Records in the US. The actual version that was released was the wonderful James Black version with is classic off beat hats! It is also one of Mini Subs favourites!

Lyrics
Keep it steady Lyrics by Stick Up Boys
Little bit of this and a little bit of that mate
Little bit of drums and a little bit of phat bass
Little bit of wheelin little bit of dealing
I promised my mum id be a good boy
Walking on a thin white line
The night that I was stopped – I crossed a stop sign
Blue flashing lights like lightening striking
Through the glass reflections shining
They said “get out of the vehicle sir”
I thought to myself will I ever learn
I slowly opened the door outside
Stepping out I walked on a straight line
Trying hard – hard not to stumble
I don't want to play the fool
They said “what have you been doing tonight sir?”
Little bit of this and a little bit of that mate
Little bit of drums and a little bit of phat bass
Little bit of wheelin , a little bit of dealing
I promise my mum I'd be a good boy
They said “can you open up the boot sir?”
Shit I thought What is in there
I don't remember what is in there
I'm not sure what they're find when they open it
I move so slow I don't want to open it
They said “Can you hurry it along sir”
Put the key in the lock and I feel it turning
I close my eyes, my hands are burning
Can't believe my luck when I see that its empty
If I done nothing they will set me free
They said again “what have you been doing tonight sir?”
Little bit of this and a little bit of that mate
Little bit of drums and a little bit of phat bass
Little bit of wheelin and a little bit of dealing
I promise my mum Id be a good boy
Little bit of this and a little bit of that mate
Little bit of drums and a little bit of phat bass
Little bit of weed and a little bit of dealing
I promise my mum I'd be a good boy
Whats it all about?
I used to gig 4/5 times a week and would always be out and about in London late at night. We were often in an unmarked white van and driving around central London at one in the morning. It would usually be me and the drummer and to be honest we did look a bit suspicious. As a result of this we would often get pulled over by the police. It was never fun getting regularly stopped by the police and depending on their mood getting a fair bit of their power trip.
Now we were gigging and partying a lot especially if it was the weekend. The band we were in also used to have their own DJs for the after party so we would often do a gig and then there would be a lot of after parties. We obviously were very innocent and would never have anything in the van that was not legal or be involved in any of that stuff. However innocent you are though you always feel guilty when the police stop and search you and your van and there is a certain amount of paranoia around what the police would find....This is what the lyrics of this song are about, quite a lot of near misses in a journey to the cop shop.
Thank you for reading/listening. We will let you work out what you think it is about...as that is part of the fun with the written word!
