The Art of Thai Pottery

While doing an article with a great group of Steemians @adsactly, about the Island of Kret, I discovered the art of Thai pottery. I was only able to visit Village 6 on an island of master clay potters. I didn't really know what to expect so I was all in for the adventure but what I found interested every artistic nerve in my body.

I remember going on a 4th or 5th-grade trip to see some potters in action but that seems like lifetimes ago. I was intrigued by the whole set up from start to finish from realizing that the big hole in the middle of the retail area, was where they got their mud from.

This was all new to me so I took my time to analyzing and appreciating as many complete products as I could. I kept thinking that I knew that this stuff was made from nature, and the coolest thing about all of it was, it's all made from nature.

After looking around, I saw the master potter searching for his seat cushion and I jumped right into the action. I started a conversation with him that led to him telling us all about his family lineage and how they came to be Village 6 in the island's legendary pottery. Kret Island was settled by the Mon Tribe and all this awesome pottery is a major part of the Mon's culture and history there.

I was super excited, like a kid with cake, as I watched him craft pottery ware what seemed to me as instantly. There was no mistaking his mastery and he could seriously craft pottery ware, blindfolded while listening to Kendrick Lamar on blast. He was doing a completed product per minute which is remarkable.

As I marveled over the products drying in the furnace, I couldn't help but admire our ancestors for perfected such an artistic craft. They made a number of useful types of tools just from mud. A skill that still exists today as I watched the potter create with my own eyes. In a world of smartphones and so-called technological wonders, I'm so happy I found the art of Thai pottery at Village 6.
