When I read your post a couple of days ago it reminded me of a silly little poem that I wrote a year or so ago when I was going through some health issues and feeling pretty emotional. I wanted to share it then but it took me two days to figure out where I put it.
I really relate to how you feel about your yard.
Here’s the poem in all it’s morose silliness.
An Okay Place to Die
If you should find me on my last legs.
See the fire fading fast.
Please help me find someplace quick.
Where I can breathe my last.
It has to be a special place.
One filled with love and life.
No sterile room with strangers
Filled with stress and strife.
I want to die with one hand touching
The earth that fed my soul.
While my eyes gaze pon the heavens
I’ve always longed for here below.
I want a tree to lean my back against
And soft grass for my behind
Some soothing notes from your guitar
To help me clear my mind.
I don’t want all those I love
To be gathered round in pain.
All serious and somber
As if I’ll never be again.
I just want to go with dignity.
The way I’ve tried to live.
While learning a few lessons
That this life had to give.
I hope there’ll be lots of critters.
Dogs and cats and birds and such.
They’ve so often brought me comfort.
Though reptiles not so much.
I guess my friend what I’m asking you.
If it wouldn’t be too hard.
No matter where you find me.
Please bring me home to my backyard.
RE: This is my happy place.
