Great post Jimmy, I feel though, players are paid (and this is true in most major sports) not what they are actually worth, but what the team chasing that player to sign (or keep) are prepared to pay, especially if it stops a rival getting that player cheaper.
And as you've highlighted with your own Mets, paying silly money doesn't guarantee success.
