Hello fellow Hiver's,
Today is day 3 of the Glorious Goodwood meeting, also known as Ladies Day, where fashion and horse racing come together, with the ladies in particular donning their finest outfits and sometimes outrageously styled milinery (hats to you and me... lol) It's a chance to see and be seen on the most glamourous (allegedly) day of the meeting. The feature race is again race 4 on the card, The Qatar Nassau Stakes, with 11 runners set to do battle over a 5f sprint. Form suggests that Nashwa, the likely short priced favourite, will be up to the task with Hollie Doyle on board again. A winner of 3 of her 4 starts this year, and most recently in The Prix de Diane at Chantilly, France just over 5 weeks ago, in the French equivalent of English Classic - The Oaks.
So a review of yesterday, starting with the feature race The Qatar Sussex Stakes, a Group 1 race over 1m. 7 runners went to post but the biggest question of the day was not which horse would win, but what would be the winning margin. Baaeed was a hot favourite to extend his winning run to 9 wins from 9 races. and duly obliged, running comfortably towards the rear before moving forward from 3f from home, coasting to the front 1f out and easing away over the line. I picked Alcohol Free to cause an upset, but he finished in third, well placed with Baaeed, who kept him pinned to the running rail until the cutaway in the home straight. Saw a gap and tried to exploit that on the run in, but it quickly closed and had to push hard to grab third on the line.
Of our picks from yesterday, just a third place from Value Theory in the 5th race gave us any joy, staying on gamely having always been near the front, and just lacking a touch in pace at the end. Of the other three selections Luminous Light and Approachability finished 10th and a very narrow 6th respectively, in the first race of the day. Had that 6th place been converted to a 5th we would have had a nice little return on the Each-Way as he came home at 40-1 instead of the 20-1 we took. Our final selection Toussarok also finished 6th

And so onto those bets for today 28th July, 2022

Only three runners for our trainer today in the handicap races. Two are good each-way opportunity with odds of 16's and 14's taken, particularly with both races featuring an extra place payout, although both have already shortened in the market since i placed my bet. Thank heavens for my bookie offering a best odds guarantee. The other selection in the 5th race, True Statesman is likely to set off as a shortish priced favourite having won twice and placed once from his four starts, thus warrants a win bet instead of each-way.
That's it for today. Have a great day, and if you're betting then good luck, and thanks for reading as always.
