Follow The Tipster - Sunday April 30th, 2023

Hello again one and all,

The final day of April is here, and typically for a Sunday, slim pickings on the horse racing front with just 3 meetings taking place. It is also the first day of the flat season so the Racing Post tipster competition begins anew. Over half of the 53 tipsters are heading to Musselburgh for their picks, whilst Wetherby accounts for around a third of runners, with the sole Irish meeting picking up a handful of tips, and 5 haven't put up a selection at all for today.

Recap - Saturday, 29th April, 2023

No success yesterday, with all three selections failing to hit the mark.

Towards the rear of the field early on , began making ground 4 from home having travelled well top that point. Switched right with 2 to go, taking the lead before the last and moving clear by 3 lengths. Stamina seemed to evaporate on the run in losing the lead in the final 100 yards, and just hanging on for 2nd place.

In a good position chasing the leaders when badly hampered ny a faller at the second obstacle. Recovered to midfield by the 13th fence, and steadily made progress to be back chasing the leaders 4 from home. Gained third place after the second last, staying on at the same after an awkward jump at the last.

A disppointing 7th placed finish, after travelling in the middle of the field. At halfway still held that position, before making headway to 6th entering the home straight, and then into 5th before making a mistake at the last and dropping back, ultimately finishing about 5.5 lengths behind the winner'

Tipsters Standings

The last day of April sees Expert Eye at the top for the month with 10 winner. The next two have 9 each, but only The Punt can tie for the top with West Country not making a selection for today . Expert Eye's strike rate before today's runner is good , and he has a healthy profit for the month on a £1 win stake. The biggest profit in the month, however goes to Jason Heavey, courtesy of two of his 6 winners being priced at 33-1 and 20-1

Today's Bets

Just two bets to pin our hopes on for the end of the month, and hopefully go out with a bang!

First up is Mystic Pearl, a 3yo filly, finished 2nd of 6 over this distance on the All-weather surface at Southwell, 16 days ago. Ridden today by Ben Curtis, who has 5 winners from 44 rides in the last fortnight, a strike rate of 11%.

Golden Maverick had a creditable 3rd place finish on his handicap debut when stepping up in trip, 16 days ago at Southwell. Expected to make further progress over the same 1M distance today, with top jockey William Buick on board for this one, who has 10 wins from his 35 rides in the last 14 days (29% SR)
