Forget crypto-monsters. They already have their toys. There are thousands of coins and tokens for them to choose from. Steemit cannot compete with them ALL. But steemit can do what it's meant to do. And that is, be social.

The steemit blockchain is great because it provides a platform where people can be, and get paid for, who they want to be. You can be an author. A photographer. A visual artist. You can even be a troll. And you can be successful at it.

But in order to grow the platform, steemit needs more active users. Not just creators, but also readers. We are nothing without our fans. And so, this article is about how to get more people involved in steemit.

Share!

Share your posts on other networks. Promoting your content on steemit is great, because you get upvotes and upvotes mean BIG MONEY. But steemit is a baby compared to other platforms like Facebook, Twitter, and Reddit.

Facebook

Facebook is one of the most popular social networks out there. It provides you with apps, social groups, and a wall where all your friends can see what you share. It’s also pretty easy to gain a following on Facebook. Simply be active in groups and befriend people. Some of them won't like you, and remove you. Most of them won't mind you though, and they will comment on your posts. Mostly to argue. Facebook loves arguments. But indulge them. MAKE THEM LOVE YOU. And then, like a ninja, convert them to steemit.

Twitter

I don't use Twitter much, it's way too busy for me. But the fact that it's busy makes it an easy target for steemit. Share ALL your steemit posts to Twitter. Make #steemit one of the most trending hash tags on the site. Force people to click on steemit links. If 1 out of 100 people who click, join, then you've done your job. Because Twitter has over 300 million active users. It's seriously one of the best places for you to get exposure. So use it!

Reddit

Reddit is probably the platform that's most like steemit. It relies on message boards called subreddits, where people post articles and memes related to specific topics. Reddit also relies on a ranking system that works much like upvotes. The more upvotes you get, the higher your post gets to the top of the page. And if it's trending, EVERYBODY sees it. Just linking your steemit posts to Reddit doesn't work that great though. But you can make excerpts of your posts in a Reddit article and then add a link to your steemit post at the bottom. It's a bit of effort, but it pays off in the end.

YouTube

While the steem blockchain has its own video sharing site, it's nowhere near as popular as YouTube. I see steemit posts daily with YouTube videos embedded into them. But when I click on the video to view it inside of the YouTube platform, I very rarely see any links to steemit posts. Add your post details in the description box of YouTube videos, dammit! It takes 2 minutes to do and it creates awareness. And we need awareness!

Conclusion

Steemit needs marketing. And because it's a decentralised platform, it requires YOU to do it. So get out there and promote the hell out of it. It's not only good for the platform, but it's good for you too!
