It must have been a truly wonderful experience. I was really struck by your description, including the noises, the smells of spices, the colors, and the street life. I think that the very encounter with cultures so different from our own is one of the most interesting aspects of traveling. Zanzibar is a very popular place, but from the photos I notice that it lacks the urban culture found in Europe... it seems like a place where evolution is slow.
