Stocks – Introduction
Today, we are discussing the advantages and disadvantages of owning stocks.
Advantages
Potential capital growth
This means that if a company increases its earnings and value over time, its share price may also rise, generating a capital gain.
Profit participation
It is worth noting that some companies distribute a portion of their profits to shareholders in the form of dividends, creating a potential income stream.
Disadvantages
Risk of capital loss
Stocks of underperforming companies carry high risks. The share price can drop significantly; in extreme cases—such as corporate bankruptcy—shareholders can lose their entire invested capital.
Volatility
In the short term, share prices can fluctuate sharply due to corporate results, expectations, interest rates, the economic climate, or market sentiment. It is not uncommon to find oneself holding a losing position and feeling the urge to sell. Doing so effectively locks in a real loss.

Berkshire Hathaway shares have been performing very well over the last 5 years, showing a solid +83.73%.
The stock closed 2025 at approximately $502.65, and today it is trading in the range of... ...at the $507 level, meaning the year-to-date return is in the +1% to +1.5% range. We previously highlighted the stock on this blog when it was at $470; that would have been a good entry point.
Coinbase Shares
Coinbase shares have dropped nearly 45% over the last six months—not a good performance, I’d say.
Coinbase remains heavily influenced by cryptocurrency market trends; in recent trading sessions, it has moved in tandem with Bitcoin and other crypto-related stocks.

Bisogna sapere che alcune società distribuiscono una parte degli utili agli azionisti sotto forma di dividendi, creando un possibile flusso di reddito.
Svantaggi
Rischio di perdita del capitale
Le azioni di società poco buone hanno alti rischi. Il prezzo può diminuire anche molto; nei casi estremi di fallimento dell'impresa, l'azionista può perdere l'intero capitale investito.
Volatilità
Nel breve periodo il prezzo delle azioni può oscillare fortemente per risultati aziendali, aspettative, tassi d'interesse, situazione economica o sentiment dei mercati. Può capitare spesso di avere la posizione in perdita ed avere il desiderio di vendere. In quel caso praticamente si va a concretizzare una reale perdita.
