Description from Strava:
I was at the pub music session last night that was a lot of fun. A guy at the bar kept saying that the pub needed to make more of having us there as there was nobody else there. The beer was okay, but it had me up in the night. Interrupted sleep is never great, but I felt okay this morning.
I watch various videos about running and try to pick out tips that I can apply. I do need to do some workouts where I run hard for longer. I had this one saved on my Garmin watch where I do 800m at 'race pace' and then have 200m to recover. That repeats six times. I may have set this one up myself, but had not done it in a while.
The kids are on summer holiday now so I could run past the school without hitting crowds. My first sprint was along the new road and over the bridge over the bypass. Work is ongoing in Etonbury Woods to manage the river for preventing flooding, but they had not started as I came through. It has meant clearing a lot of trees, but I hope they will plant more.
The next sprint was partly uphill and I had to cross a road to get to the Pendleton Way cycle track. Then it is fairly flat. I had been thinking I would aim for 5:15/km as that pace would improve on my recent parkrun times, but I ended up nearer 5:00. It is good that I can manage that, but I need to be careful about doing too much too soon. I would love to get back under 25 minutes for 5km, but do not mind it taking a while to build up to. I am happy enough that I can do this sort of pace at my age.
I took the long way around through Arlesey to fit in all the sprints. The last one caught me a bit by surprise as I thought there were only five, but I managed it anyway. There are some roadworks going on near us to improve the speed bumps that were put in recently. They were not done very well so some cars were scraping on them. The workers were just closing the road as I came past so some cars had to turn around to take the long way. They have been trying to keep at least one side of the road open, so people can get through, but obviously needed to do more today.
I was going to volunteer at parkrun on Saturday, but they seem to have enough people anyway. I will do it another week. Tomorrow will be a rest day as I struggle if I run every day.
Have a great day and run free!
