Description from Strava:
We were up in Derby for a wedding party on Friday night and I did look at doing a parkrun there. As it was I did not get up in time, so was not going to make it. I was up fairly early today and so got out for my long run.
I opted for a loop I have not done so much. I started off heading to Henlow. There were a load of sheep near The Grange with their lambs. It took me a moment to find the right turning off the high street to get the alley onto the main road that runs through Clifton and on to Shefford. There I almost double back to take the road to Henlow Camp. That is a long, but not too steep hill. There were a lot of cars queuing at one of the roundabouts, but that may have been for a football match.
I had to cross the bypass, but it was not too busy and I was being careful anyway. The path by the road into the camp is a bit rough and narrow, so I was watching my step. There used to be a greyhound track along there, but it has been replaced with more new housing that is springing up everywhere.
I ran past the RAF camp where I worked for a year during my degree many years ago before heading across the fields back to Arlesey. I took a long way around for that. I saw lots of red kites today and they are impressive birds. They are quite common around here now.
It has rained a bit this week, but it was nice this morning. There were some puddles, but no real mud to avoid. The path to the footbridge over the railway is getting a bit overgrown. I have thought of volunteering with the local nature group who maintain some of these areas. We need to keep them clear so people can explore the area.
This was another of my 'easy' runs where I tried to keep my heart rate down. It averaged 140bpm, which is the threshold for zone 3 for me according to Strava.
We may get more rain this week, so I will run when I can. Today we are doing some gardening, including clearing the weeds that are flourishing with all the rain and sunshine.
Have a great week and run free!
