Monster: The Lizzie Borden Story
Trapped in a harsh Victorian household, Lizzie Borden murders her parents with an axe in a horrific killing that shocks the nation. Is it worth watching?

Sarah Paulson is, as always, excellent.
There were some beautifully directed scenes.
Rebecca Hall also delivers a pretty good performance, as does Vicky Krieps in the role of the housekeeper.
I have to admit that it is quite ambitious in its attempt to highlight female criminality.
It tries to portray the pressures of the late 19th century.

Charlie Hunnam's performance as the father felt over-the-top at times.
I really, really didn't like Ella Beatty's performance as the lead actress. π€·ββοΈ
There were parts where the pacing dragged.
I never understood why serial killer Aileen Wuornos had to be brought into this story. It didn't work for me. π€·ββοΈ It also makes things confusing.
Did they want to introduce another storyline just to stretch out the original one? They could have told this story in fewer episodes.
I didn't understand the purpose of the abrupt close-ups of people's faces, especially in the early episodes.
Some of the musical choices were off.
The vomiting scene was simply ridiculous.
An underwhelming finale.
Resident Evil
A medical supply courier takes on a last-minute delivery to a remote town in terrible weather conditions. The pay is double, so it's worth setting up his girlfriend. As if all that weren't enough to make for a difficult night, a mysterious woman suddenly appears out of nowhere and crashes into his car... and she just won't die! Is it worth watching?

Austin Abrams is excellent in the leading role.
I really liked that Bryan isn't your typical macho hero.
Zach Cregger is an incredible director. The way he plays with the camera in this film is truly remarkable.
In several scenes, it had the music-video aesthetic I was looking for, particularly through the protagonist's POV.
It had some genuinely creepy moments.
I found the first half of the film much more exciting and atmospheric.
There was a jump scare in the barn (no spoilers) that absolutely got me. π π
The use of the tentacles was incredibly effective and creative.
I liked the variety in the monsters' designs. They weren't all the same.
It's hugely entertaining.
Practical effects are always welcome.
There are plenty of cinephile references to films such as Evil Dead 2, Aliens, The Thing and, of course, Night of the Living Dead.

Damn it, the comedic element just doesn't work for me in a thriller, but that's purely a personal preference.
Hardcore fans of the video games might not find what they were looking for in this film, as it doesn't follow the established lore of the games.
Unfortunately, the ending disappointed me here too. He manages to ruin the ending for me in every one of his films. π
Essentially, it leaves you hanging, with an unresolved and ambiguous ending.
