The NBA’s hottest team Oklahoma City Thunder traveled to our nation’s capital to take on the Washington Wizards. The Thunder are winners of eight straight games and hold the fifth spot in the Western Conference. The Wizards also hold the fifth spot in their respective conference but do not have their star point guard, John Wall, who will be out of action for 6-8 weeks after his knee surgery.
The Wizards started off the game building an eight point lead with just under five minutes remaining in the first quarter, taking a five point lead after the first 12 minutes. The Thunder were able to overtake the lead just before the halftime buzzer, behind Paul George’s 20 point first half.

Washington came out of the locker room to build a seven point lead midway through the third quarter. Oklahoma City was able to cut their deficit to one before the end of the third quarter, the same as they started.
Neither team was able to build more than a four point lead throughout the quarter. With the Thunder ahead 96-94 with under a minute left in the game, the Wizards went on an 8-0 run to end the game, hitting six-of-six free throws in the final minute of the game, finishing off the Thunder 102-96. The win ended the Thunder’s eight-game winning streak.

Otto Porter led his Wizards with 25 points, while Bradley Beal and Markieff Morris added 21 and 18 points, respectively. Paul George lead the Thunder in scoring with 28 points while the rest of the team struggled from the floor, shooting 37% from the field, largely due to the struggles of Russell Westbrook and Carmelo Anthony, who combined for 12-39 (31%) from the floor in the loss.
