ESSENTIALS OF ESSAY WRITING

An essay is any literary composition on restricted topic. All the units of the language: morphemes,words,sentences, and paragraphs are effectively used to preserve logical and interesting idea or message An essay may be formal or informal. The following steps must be considered before writing an essay.

1. CHOICE TOPIC
   Whenever you considered writing , then you should look for the easiest among the ones you can think of at that moment. This is to enable you have enough materials,content to write. Whenever you are assigned a topic as the case of contest may be, you have to select a particular aspect of such a topic. e.g HUMAN BEINGS: What aspect? or Writ o LIFE ON THE CAMPUS.The topic looks general. But consider if you are to write on your academic ,financial or spiritual life. Are you to discuss life as a student alone or live as students put together.

1. LENGTH OF THE ESSAY
   The length of the discussion or writing should also be borne in mind to avoid gathering content that would be too much or too scanty. How many paragraphs are to write?. Steemians mostly get bored when your article is too lengthy and this should be considered too.

3.FIXING A CENTRAL IDEA
The next step is to fix a single central idea around which the whole theme and contents would be develop. If you are giving a description about your hobby, there are many thing to be considered under this topic; games, gardening,music,e.t.c . If games, which of them and in what aspect: guitar/organ playing/earning, dancing,singing,etc do you prefer?

4.ORGANIZATION /SEQUENCE OF IDEAS
The next step is to organize and arrange the content. The writer must exercise so much patience here. Remember that the idea o proportion is closely related to the length of the composition.

The sequence which has o do with time relationship is equally important s that he essay does not lose coherence. Writing an essay involving a group of people in an action(DRAMA) WOULD HAVE TO INCLUDE THE ORIGIN OF THE GROUP.and how it later develop to its present level.

1. TRANSITION
   Where there are more possibilities in the presentation, the idea of smooth transition is very important. How do you move from one subtopic to another or from one paragraph to another. IF there are many subtopics The least important subtopics must be dealt with first.
