We like this song a lot. It’s fun to perform. Seems like the entire band plays it well.
Stay with the arrangement and specifically catch the anticipations. The chord changes appear at the end of measures and that makes the song distinguishable. Less like Tower Of Power (Rocco) and more like James Jamison again. Yes, Rocco was trying to be … anyway I want to be more like a heavy soulful style. Not the busy with lots-of-tones 16th pattern type bass guy… well maybe at the end and for a sax solo. That was dumb to say also, James had busy moments and 16th note sophistication. Amp: Mesa Boogie Walkabout. I forgot the specs, but it’s been good for many many years. 300 watt I believe. Two speakers that I place…… OH WAIT…. I DON’T USE IT FOR THIS GIG. The venu has an amp that I like to use. I plug into a direct box and also the amp. I forgot the amp type. The amp head is on top of a speaker cabinet with 4 ten-inch speakers. I like that for my boomy bass tendency/past. 4 tens should be more punch and less big low boomy speaker sub type sound. So far, band mates have no complaints. Sometimes, I think the guitar player might be getting blown away by the end of the sets.
Bass: Fender Jazz Bass Deluxe 4 String… also known as “Bread and Butter.” when I was a full-time musician I used this bass for long periods of time. I modified it for longevity. Light strings, heavy-mass bridge, low action, grenade launcher, thick strap, MAC-10, and very useful controls (even when broken). Technically it's broken, but I just deal with it. I wanted more midrange anyway. My video’s and bandmates needed it. I spent a long time carving mid-range out of my bass for an island band. Now, I want a sound that cuts though and prints better to video.
Music Stand AND Lights: New lights. I purchased them for these performances. I don’t remember the brand names, but the lights are rechargeable and they come with a long long long charging cable. I might try to go without them some day soon. It might force me to get away from the music.
The music stand has been with me for a long time. It’s very portable because it breaks down into a small manageable shape.
A locally world famous type of spot that loves to have our band, Jazz Derelicts. We bring an audience that like to buy their drink and can afford to eat also. We make them lots of money on an early Sunday afternoon.
I hear the burgers are good.
The beer is good enough. I’ll asked about the well.
Lots of seating and the room is large. Probably holds 100 to 150 people. Seating is almost all the way around and most of it is 2.5 feet below the stage.
People say the sound is good.
