US Attorney General Jeff Sessions has reversed federal policy to leave alone individual state's marijuana laws.
This late in the game move after 29 states and DC now allow medical pot, 8 states allow recreational use and 14 more have decriminalized its use.
Regardless your stand on weed, including whether you use or not, a reasonable person would look at this situation and see that a vast majority of people across the land have chosen to accept marijuana more than ever before. The wills of the people have been voiced. State's rights are in play and individual freedoms connect throughout.
I live in a state where concealed/open carry of firearms is allowed without permit. The citizens of my state chose this and only within our borders and only for residents of the state. This is an exclusive decision of the people here and has worked very well since implementation. Same should go with the pot views of the land.
I don't smoke pot but do defend the right of people who chose to do it within the boundaries of where it's allowed.
Why waste federal taxpayers' money on enforcing local/state laws that have been chosen by individual areas? Is this the role of the federal government?
The US Attorney General's job is to enforce federal laws - only - and not ride herd on states and individual rights of people residing in those states.
There are times when things change and we realize that perceived progress was really a mistake, thus reversal is in order. This is not one of those times.
