Introduction to Computing. (Computing knowledge and application) What you must know.

As part of our commitment to dig deep into civilised world of computing, exploration of new innovations and inventions, and taking them to where they're needed, we shall begin from the grassroots : starting from what brought about the need for computer.

The basic definition of computer back in elementary days defines computer as an electronic device which stores data and process it into information.

Back then diskette were still used, desktop Computers were the only ones in use but now we have super gaming laptops, scanners, memory cards, flash drives and many more.

Wikipedia defines computer as a device which can be instructed to perform arbitrary sequences of arithmetic or logical operations automatically. Wow this looks more complex than the initial elementary definition. Like i said the computer world is really growing fast with lots of calculations and lots of programming language being used.

The history of computer has been splitted into generations dating several years back. But it is something that must be discussed as it is very interesting the way computer has evolved.

It started with computation to make calculations easy this was very long ago when abacus and Antikythera mechanism was being used to perform arithmetic tasks. Charles Babbage created the first computational system. He was a mechanical engineer. He came up with the programmable computer input was done through punch cards. All parts of this machine were made with hands, Which was a major issue with the computer.

**Analogue computers came in the middle of the 20th century, when the scientists were so in need of a computer and this was a vast solution to their problems. However these computers were not versatile and also lacked the accuracy of the modern computers. The first of the analogue computer was a tide predicting machine invented by sir William Thompson. The analogue computer which could solve equations was later invented which used the wheel and disc mechanism for operation.

Digital computer was invented in 1938. The navy developed a kind that was small enough to be brought on their ships for solving trigonometry which was used to fire their turpedo. These computers has low operating speed and were soon kicked out by electric computers which used vacuum tubes.

The first electronic digital computer called colossus was made during the war and uses vacuum tubes for its operation. It was capable of doing several logical equation at a good speed. Computers then evolved to (Electronic Numerical Integrator and Computer) was the first electronic programmable computer built by the United States. It was much faster and flexible but the programming was manual it had to be reset manually after one program was written.

Computer types are based on two major categories. First is Uses and the other can be classified according to sizes.

There are several uses of computer, in fact several applications of the computer has been used to improve the world in different ways. Computers are being embraced to an extent the one might find it uneasy to secure a job without the knowledge of it. There is a serious competition between the information age and computer age, whereas, for the former to be appreciable, there must be a well saturated atmosphere of computing skills and knowledge.
