Like you said with the phone, the big layer ones will be there when you need them. The smaller "apps" may or may not be. The smaller ones have lower market caps and can be tempting to pursue for fast gains if you can sell at the right time, but many don't make it. It takes a lot of work and faith to figure out what the winners may be. While I've used Hive for years, it's still in the "app" role for me, despite being a layer one. I've yet to see it grow enough to be something I can rely on as being massive in the upcoming years - but I hope it is. I just think I'd have seen more hints of its future mass adoption in the years past, but it usually seems tied to the same players/witnesses, and thankfully Splinterlands!
