My hunch was that a can collector in the area doing their earlier circuit found them both and left them as they probably didn’t know what to do with them. If I were a can collector, and many don’t speak great English, perhaps they just thought that they’d put it somewhere where the person who lost it may come back to, which wasn’t completely obvious for anyone walking by. By the surprise of the first kid, they seemed shocked to where I said it was, so maybe not. Both of them were from younger teenagers so I Initially thought that maybe someone was pickpocketing them at a local school, but apparently it was probably just some random bad luck combined with random good luck.
