Sometimes I try to come up with theories to rationalize why people might not be so ridiculous, but on average, it's just wastefulness or a lack of knowhow. I can't tell you how many endless times I've found something with the smallest issue that I was able to research and fix in minutes. Simple troubleshooting and resourcefulness is not a priority for many here, and they'd likely rather use a simple issue as an excuse to buy a new one. Sometimes issues aren't even issues at all, but seemed like them.
Sometimes larger pools of finds are the result of move-out or death, but other than that it's general laziness to find an alternative option outside of putting it in the bin for disposal.
