I should’ve been more specific. Let’s say the wallets show no activity in years, whereas you get the sense that these were lost keys. If you held the keys for a few more years and see no movement, it starts to become more gray. Perhaps at that point, taking a near zero amount out as a signal to the owner that they should move their funds would probably seem like the next step. If no activity for years to come after that, then maybe that is enough to warrant that they are unrecoverable without the keys the finder has now, and therefore it’d be relatively ok.
Completely hypothetical, but I have a feeling that I’ll eventually be in this situation as crypto expands.
