Thanks for the pro feedback. You're exactly right with waiting that extra split second. When I do, I hammer the ball up the middle or left center with authority, even driving hard to right (something I usually could never do unless I was late). When I don't, I'm opening up my hips too soon and pulling it too much or rolling my hands over - losing power and plate coverage - and that's a horrible feeling when it's my mistake versus getting beat on a pitch. Sometimes I just get in a bad rhythm against guys in the 70's since I hit better against faster arms. Too eager and forget to be patient with the hands.
I've never faced more than ~90 a while ago, but I've caught it (an ex-Marlins AA guy). I think the fastball would be possible to hit eventually (barely) after adjusting with lots of practice, but I'd look like an idiot on the breaking or off-speed stuff because I'd be dialed up for the heat. If I had consistent exposure to higher speeds, I'm sure I'd adapt, but there just isn't anyone around here in my league that throws more than 85-90.
