Starting with the most rudimentary complaint, it’s far from where I live and I have to rely on the MTA to get me there. That pretty much speaks for itself.
Something else that’s really annoying about my school is it’s uniform. I’m not against the idea of uniforms, but the ones they make the kids wear look like a McDonalds employee had a baby with business casual.
It’s not so much the uniform though, more that it’s only reason for being there is to give teachers another thing to nitpick. Some teachers are lenient with what you can and can’t wear, and some will give you demerits for having a navy blue belt instead of a black one. Apparently, the school wants us to prepare to work in a professional environment (so screw you if you don’t want to work in a cubicle for the rest of your life, I guess), but maybe instead of failing us for having sneakers on, maybe try to improve your teaching methods. Or at least get your shit together with the uniform policy.
There’s a quote I like, “This school cares more about the color of your sweater than your grades.
Those faces scream ‘smile if you want to see your family again’.
We also like to have random metal dectetor checks. I’m not kidding, they’ll come in on random mornings with two metal detectors and a whole police entourage, so you have to take off your belt and empty your pockets and put it all into a scanner (even though you need your ID to swipe in every morning).
But, in all fairness, you’ll be fine here as long as you’re comfortable with forfitting your future. I have to applaud the schools for offering programs other schools can’t claim to, but the work ethic here is next to nothing. Several teachers have visibly given up. I’ve seen a teacher cry right in front of her kids and I can’t blame her. On the other hand, some of the teachers hate teenagers to the point where you wonder why they chose to become a high school teacher in the first place.
There’s a lot of things to complain about, but my personal favorite is the kids. There are some decent, even brilliant kids here, but notwithstanding the minority you’ll be met with waves of the most unruly, nasty, foul-mouthed children you’ll ever meet. I literally held a conversation with a kid here by repeating ‘deadass’, ‘for real’, and ‘niggas be trippin’’ in no particular order. I’m in honors now, but on my first day the kids in the normal English class made fun of my stutter, and I still get bothered about leaving the room afterwards. I’m fairly sure they moved me because of the kids that made fun of me. I recall one day when someone set of a firecracker in the cafeteria, and another more recent (although much more humorous) incident where a kid took out his laptop, plugged in his PS4 controller, and continued to play Fortnite. In the middle of Bio. The funny thing is, he scolded for having his phone out before that, but the teacher totally ignored the Fortnite. Worst part about the kids is probably their love for physically harming one another. I swear, this place has had more fights in his first trimester than an entire season of WWE.
So kids, if you’re ever applying for high schools in NYC, don’t even think about FDA, because they’ll lie to you by trying to cover up this juvenile penitentiary as a school. Also, sorry for lack of quality in my answer. My brain isn’t really working to good because I have lunch at 9 in the morning.
And, if you do come here, get out as fast as possible.
