He scored almost 2160 runs in 32 innings in the current domestic season in India across formats, which is also the most by any player ever and first to go past 2000.
Of those, he scored 723 runs in 8 innings in the Vijay Hazare trophy, 2018, with his scores being 109, 84, 28, 102, 89, 140, 81 and 90 in the final.
He was also the highest run getter in 2017–18 Ranji Trophy scoring 1160 runs in 13 innings at 105.45; only player to go past 1000 runs this season.
With a season like this and the fact that players like Dhoni, Kohli, Pandya were bing rested, he would have believed he had done enough to get a national call-up for the up coming Tri-Series. But he did not.

And when was asked whether he was disappointed, he said was that he is doing all he could and not everything is in his hands.
Rightly so, he can only do what is in his hands. Or, he can just give up knowing that even this stupendous season couldn’t get him a National Call-up.
But I don’t think he will. He doesn’t look like the kind who will give-up, however tempting that would seem like. Most people have in the past after doing great in one season.
Only highlights the point that success doesn’t come through momentary brilliance; success require you to do it consistently.
